IDEA 101: Special ED Basics for Parents (English)
WarmLine FRC is happy to have Claudette Rushing from Education Resolutions. Claudette Rushing has worked in public education as a teacher, mediator, investigator, hearing officer and attorney, since 2002. She currently works as a special education hearing officer for the Vermont Agency of Education and Texas Education Agency where she rules on IDEA complaints. She also investigates and mediates IDEA complaints for several states. Ms. Rushing has also worked as legal counsel for the U.S. Department of the Interior- Office of the Solicitor where she worked extensively with the Bureau of Indian Education. Ms. Rushing worked as a Legal Specialist and Dispute Resolution Coordinator for the Oregon Department of Education from 2011-2015. She worked as an attorney for the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights from 2015-2021. During law school, she also interned for Baltimore City Schools Office of General Counsel and the National School Boards Association/Council of School Attorneys. Prior to her legal career, Ms. Rushing worked as a reading specialist, English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teacher, and as a general and special education teacher in Texas, France, and Maryland. She also worked extensively with gifted and talented children with Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Talented Youth. She identifies as a person with a disability and is most proud of her work as a mother. When she isn’t working in education law and policy you can find her reading, learning about indigenous art and culture, walking, hiking, or spending time with children.
